Programs Director

The Programs Director is an experienced, enthusiastic, visionary leader, setting a departmental vision that aligns with and promotes fulfillment of CMBM’s strategic goals, and is responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. This role is the primary architect and steward of the programs and projects by which CMBM’s trauma relief and mental health methodologies are implemented within community and institutional partner settings and shared more broadly through open-enrollment programs.

The Programs Director provides oversight to the direction of CMBM programs and projects, and is responsible for tracking, managing, and communicating the department’s needs, deliverables, and outcomes. In collaboration with the department’s Associate Directors, Program Managers, Project Managers, and Coordinators, the Director will ensure that members of the Programs team enjoy and feel rewarded by opportunities to contribute to, learn from, and grow in their collective work, and that each member has the opportunity to collaborate in strategic ways with other teams at CMBM.

This position is a member of CMBM’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Composed of the CEO, COO, Programs, Operations and Clinical Directors, the ELT’s collective charge is to provide well-considered counsel to and help facilitate consensus regarding decisions that inform CMBM’s capacity to plan for and fulfill its mission.

Job Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for both operational and administrative functions, including but not limited to:

  • Departmental Leadership and Strategy:
    • Provide overall stewardship of the CMBM Programs Department
    • Lead the development of department goals to align with organizational strategic plans
    • Assess needs of the department and delegate to or work with appropriate team members to carry out program and project activities
    • Architect balance of program and project activity with other departments
      • Work with CEO, COO, and other team members to ensure balance of open enrollment and community projects
      • Work with Clinical Director and Clinical department to ensure close collaboration and decision making on project/program design and activities
      • Work closely with COO and finance team to ensure projects and programs budgets are adequately adhered to
    • Maximize the use of tools, systems, and standard operating procedures to maximize efficiency across programs and projects
    • Foresee and analyze emerging and mitigating risks, including but not limited to the availability of operational, human, and financial resources
    • Advise ELT, including but not limited to cross-functional collaborations, program and project trends, and financial forecasts
  • Team Management and Development:
    • Build strong relationships and communication internally with programs team members and externally with the other departments
    • Meet with team members regularly to assess progress and make changes / add supports as needed, ensuring programs and project teams are supported in guiding deliverables on time, within budget, or modifying with partner and CMBM support when needed
    • Mentor and supervise Program Managers and other Programs staff in development and maintenance of partnerships
    • Work with program staff to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting
    • Ensure that project criteria are well considered and understood by the team and by the rest of the departments involved in a project
    • Manage the development of the programs staff to enrich their depth of understanding about development and fundraising for project and program activities, cultivating relationships with and leading partners, gathering impact stories and data, analyzing progress on projects, and understanding budget and timing implications
  • Partnership Stewardship
    • Support the CEO, COO, and Country Directors in the development and cultivation of program and funding partnerships
    • Collaborate with the Development Department to respond to project/program activity plans and proposals for potential funding opportunities
    • Initiate and nurture potential program partnerships through research, conference attendance, panel speaking, and other opportunities to socialize CMBM

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Extensive relevant experience and skills
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, with a more advanced degree preferred
  • Managing multiple programs and projects simultaneously
  • Managing annual budgets of up to $1,000,000 or more
  • Leading department, program, and project teams
  • Member of Executive Leadership or similar team
  • Self-motivated, self-managing, problem solver with the capacity to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating work efforts with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience working with online learning management systems and online meeting platforms (ex: Adobe, Webex, Zoom).
  • Ability to understand and analyze program finances, inclusive of expenses and budgets
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and diplomacy when handling sensitive information
  • Strong communications skills, both for listening and presenting; strong writing and editing skills
  • Full fluency in Microsoft Office products and G Suite applications
  • Upbeat, creative, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to be a team player and practice team-oriented problem solving
  • Strong work ethic

Location, Time, and Travel Requirements

  • Based in Washington, D.C., although the work can be done mostly remotely
  • Available to work full-time between the hours of 9-5 EST; flexibility to accommodate occasional scheduling changes outside of those hours, based on meetings or requirements with CMBM personnel who live and work in other time zones
  • Occasional travel may be required

Salary commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package, in compliance with CMBM’s payscale framework.
