Development Manager

CMBM’s Development Manager will play a key role in stewarding CMBM’s fundraising activities that are vital to fulfilling its worldwide mission. CMBM’s ideal candidate combines a creative and entrepreneurial approach to work in a dynamic environment with strong planning and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities

In close collaboration with the Founder & CEO and the COO, this role will be responsible for both operational and administrative functions, including but not limited to:

  • Management and execution of CMBM’s fundraising effort:
    • Convert CMBM’s strategic and operating plans into development goals and work plans, tracking progress and collaborating with department staff to stay on track; strategize, oversee the execution of, and regularly assess and adjust the work plan to include all sources of contributed income, inclusive of institutional and individual donors
    • Research and track funding prospects and pursue cultivation of prospects from among the private, corporate, and public philanthropic landscape broadly, writing and overseeing the development of high-quality grant applications, with all supporting material, and ensuring timely submission
    • Manage development department calendar; develop quarterly schedules of proposal development, procurement, and submission
    • Monitor and manage all donor relations, from follow up to acknowledgement and reporting
    • Collaborate closely with the Founder & CEO and COO to ensure all programs and projects have realistic fundraising targets, plans by which to secure those funds, and can meet expectations for impact assessment
    • Work with the COO and Founder & CEO to identify, design, assess and assign resources for, and oversee the execution of special and emergent initiatives and campaigns; overseeing development of attendant themes, messages, goals, benchmarks, and deliverables
    • Collaborate with Programs and Clinical Departments to ensure that:
      • Proposals accurately reflect project goals, objectives, and deliverables
      • Program and clinical staff are informed about funder expectations aligned with their projects
    • Work closely with COO and Operations Director to ensure CMBM budget includes and accurately reflects reasonable projections for contributed income
  • Operations and administration:
    • Develop and maintain a development (CRM) database, and use Monday.com or other internal project management software to track and store information related to:
      • Past, current, and future funding prospects
      • Differentiation of institutional and individual donors
      • Active grant proposals from ideation to submission, and from payment to reporting
    • Collaborate with the Communications team and Finance Department to strengthen user engagement of online/website donations portal
    • Collaborate with Programs Department to delegate management of project funding partnerships to programs department staff
  • Communications and networking:
    • Collaborate closely with Communications team to ensure all social media, brochure, website and other messaging platforms comply with standards and expectations of donors and funders
    • Oversee the timely and appropriate reporting to funders of all impacts, deliverables, and other investor expectations
    • Initiate and nurture potential opportunities for CMBM at grantmaker conferences and/or where philanthropic presence indicates potential partnerships; pursue opportunities to attend strategic fundraising and social networking events

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in nonprofit fundraising, preferably in a national or international program delivery environment with a budget of at least $4 million
  • Comprehensive knowledge of resources for, trends in, expectations for, and best practices of the field of nonprofit fundraising
  • Demonstrated portfolio of successful grant applications, proposals, and portfolio; proven success securing large public and private grants
  • Experience to include management of systems and projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport and trust with a diverse cross-cultural staff, board members, and donors
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters preferred

Location, Time, and Travel Requirements

  • Based in Washington, DC although the work can be done mostly remotely
  • Available to work full-time between the hours of 9-5 EST; flexibility to accommodate occasional scheduling changes outside of those hours, based on meetings or requirements with CMBM personnel who live and work in other time zones
  • Occasional travel may be required

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $85-110K; salary will be commensurate with experience, within the organization’s salary structure.
